Fraternity to heal the world


Mauro Gambetti, O.F.M. Conv., Cardinal Archpriest of St. Peter’s Basilica held a meeting with the Official Delegation of the IEC 2024 on Saturday, May 18, 2024.

The Cardinal stated that hosting the Congress constitutes a special and historic time, which emerges gloriously to be ferment in the world, highlighting that the 53rd International Eucharistic Congress is the opportunity for the Church to give hope and renew the horizon.

“Fraternity to heal the world” I believe is the most suitable title for this time, it is appropriate and fair because I am convinced that in a world in which the sense of humanity is dissolved, we need to rediscover precisely interpersonal relationships. in contact with the spirit of fraternity.”, he expressed.

Meanwhile, Monsignor Alfredo José Espinoza Mateus, S.D.B., Archbishop of Quito, recalled that the Eucharist leads us to share and be fraternal: “The renewal of the consecration of Ecuador to the Sacred Heart of Jesus consists of renewing the consecration to our siblings” , he commented.

While Father Corrado Maggioni, president of the Pontifical Committee for International Eucharistic Congresses, stated that IEC 2024 constitutes a great contribution to society. “It is necessary to open spaces for reflection around issues related to fraternity from a political, historical and economic point of view.”

Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, O.F.M. Conv. received the Base Document from Father Juan Carlos Garzón, general secretary of IEC 2024, and confirmed his attendance to participate as a speaker at IEC 2024.

He also invited more people to participate. “I have been told that Quito is the most beautiful city or the second most beautiful in Latin America, so it deserves to be visited.”
